Migrate a print server from Windows NT to Windows 2000 o Windows 2003
This procedure is like the data migration one, instead of moving data, Printers are moved with two other Microsoft tools, PRINTMIG (HERE) and FIXPRNSV (is on the MS Windows CD 2003, if you can't look it up, download it, but it's 14Mb! HERE). It does the same as the previous one, copies NT4-based server drivers (SERVERNT) to Windows-based server 2003 (SERVER02) and share it with the same name it had before.

This image shows the start, how printers are shared on the SERVERNT and how on the server 2003 There is none.

First, copy the FIXPRNSV file to Windows NT4 (HERE) and run it from the command line, this checks that the drivers on the NT4 are not damaged or simply updates them to the version of 2003. Simply from MSDOS of the NT4, from the path of the NT4, Run “fixprnsv” and we close.

Once the above has been done, we run the PRINTMIG (HERE) from Windows NT4, and what we will do is a backup of all the drivers that you have installed from printers and their statuses. To do this, “Actions” > “Backup…”

We tell you where we want to save the copy .CAB.

Ok, We close it. And we move the generated NT4 file (the backup CAB file) to Windows 2003 to restore it.

What I said, already from Windows 2003 (SERVER02), we run the PRINTMIG, “Actions” > “Restore…”

We select the CAB from before…

Ok and we close.

And we have already verified that all the printers are in the SERVER02 (Windows 2003), shared and with the same name. The only thing left is to unshare them from NT4, that this program does not make it automated.
