VMware Mirage

In May of this year, VMware's acquisition of Wanova was announced, but it has been in this VMware World 2012 in San Francisco where the reasons for this large purchase have been seen! Wanova, is a software developer to centralize and simplify image management on physical and virtual desktops. Help extend the operational benefits of central image management, through the combination of the VMware View virtual desktop platform and Wananova Mirage-based recovery products.

VMware View such as Wananova Mirage provide desktop image management and have the advantage of making patching easier. For VMware, Mirage and its technology will be “a foundational element for delivering Windows applications as a service through Horizon”, Davis wrote.
Horizon is VMware's platform for the post-PC era, which explains how users will practice this trend called BYOD, where users will be able to bring their own devices to work.

The fundamental difference is that View images run on servers in the data center and use a remote graphics protocol for the user interface, while Mirage images are streamed and cached locally for execution on the client. Mirage can be used for a number of different tasks, including making OS migration easier. Mirage transfers Windows image 7 to the endpoints and change the XP image without the need for IT to touch the endpoints or use any external booting means, Wanova writes on its website. The software can also be used to back up an entire PC, and then reset personal apps and files to any compatible hardware.

Horizon Application Manager Unifies Management of Any Web Application, of Windows and Software as a Service through a catalog, and delivers applications to end users on the device of their choice, according to VMware.

We can see in this video a practical case of how it works:
