WFS Book – Windows File Server

Today I wanted to bring you another book by the great Xavier Genestós about the world of servers at Microsoft, Another of these super easy to read books, very technical and where we will always learn a trick. This time oriented to the management of the file server, that even if it doesn't seem like it, It's not just sharing folders. I end with a sentence: “If you think an expert is expensive, Wait until you see what an amateur costs you”.

The book WFS – Windows File Server is the fifth in the collection of books by Xavier Genestós.

This time the topic it deals with is Windows as a file server.

On many occasions, when talking about Windows File Server, many think that it is simply about shared resources, NTFS permissions and little else.

The truth is that it is, but with Windows Server we can offer other types of services such as offline files, Work Folders (WorkFolders), Cross-site replication with DFS-R or BranchCache, etc.

In the book all those basic topics are worked on, such as: File Systems, Repair of the same, SID, NTFS permissions, SMB, network units and an analysis of their operation is carried out, design, advantages and disadvantages as well as recommendations to avoid all kinds of problems.

On the other hand, tools for automation are also analyzed, Migration and administration of file services.

All this is accompanied by practical examples and diagrams that will help us understand each concept explained.

Finally we find a Checklist with all those elements that we have to be clear about and are explained in detail in the book.
