Those of us who need to upgrade or migrate our previous ISA environments to the new Microsoft product, called Forefront TMG we will need to perform a migration by import/export configuration, since Forefront TMG only works under 64bit systems or Windows 2008 SP2 or R2 and we will not be able to upgrade it from an earlier version of ISA Server, be ISA 2004 or ISA 2006 (since they run on x86). We will also have to manually export the certificates along with their private key to the TMG, since this process simply migrates the configuration.

So to start, from the ISA server we have, we export its configuration by “Export (making a backup)…”,

The export wizard will appear, Click on “Following” Getting Started, it will generate an XML file with the ISA Server configuration,

We check both options, first “Export confidential information” in order to export all configurations (Passwords, RADIUS secrets…) by indicating a password to encrypt the file, además de “Export user permission configuration” to export delegation permissions for users/groups. “Following”,

We specify the file we are going to generate with all the information to export, “Following”,

Click on “End” If everything is correct,

… Wait a few seconds…

Perfect, Pressed “Accept” and we transfer the generated file to the new server with Microsoft Forefront TMG 2010.

Una vez en el TMG, recién instalado y actualizado podremos importar la configuración que teníamos en nuestro antiguo servidor ISA con “Import (restaurar)…”

Igual que antes nos saldrá un asistente de importación de configuración, “Following”,

Indicamos el fichero XML que habíamos generado desde el ISA 2006, “Following”,

Nos detecta que vamos a importar configuración de una versión anterior de Forefront TMG, Accept,

Indicamos la contraseña que pusimos al fichero, “Following”,

“End” para proceder a la importación de la configuración a TMG,

… Wait a few seconds…

“Accept”,

List, ya tendríamos en nuestro servidor Forefront TMG la configuración actualizada que teníamos en versiones anteriores (en ISA Server 2006 o ISA Server 2004)!
