Preparing the Active Directory to Install a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007

The first thing is to prepare the Active Directory, for this, we will have to go to the domain controller that is the schema master (how? HERE), and meet some prerequisites, such as having the .NET Framework 2.0 installed in it (HERE), Windows SP1 2003 installed, the mode/level of the domain in “Windows 2000 native” or “Windows Server 2003” (HERE); and of course do it with a user account that has permissions.

We insert the Microsoft Exchange CD 2007, we go to an MSDOS console (“Beginning” > “Execute” > “Cmd” and Accept), from the console, we access the CD drive and run: “setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions” or “setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions“,

We check that everything is correct and continue, it will take some time to replicate with the other domain controllers, it will depend on our structure.

Now, Run: “setup.com /PrepareSchema” or “setup /PrepareSchema” to prepare the AD schema.

We also check that everything is correct… We,

When the previous command is supposed to have replicated to the other domain controllers, Again, from MSDOS, Run: “setup.com /PrepareAD” or “setup /PrepareAD” to prepare the active directory or domain

Ok, we check that everything is fine,

And finally, if we have more than one domain, we should run from MSDOS and from the CD drive: “setup.com /PrepareDomain” or “setup /PrepareDomain” to prepare other domains in the tree or forest. If we only have one domain, this would no longer be necessary to do.

Ok, everything would end well, if we have any issues, it will indicate it on the screen.

Possible issues,

How to know which is the schema master – HERE

How to raise the domain level:

We open the console of “Users and Computers of Active Directory”, About the domain > Right Button > “Raise the functional level of the domain…”

And select the one that interests us, EYE! if we have Windows-based domain controllers 2000 we must choose the first one “2000 native”, but if we only have Windows-based domain controllers 2003 we will choose “Windows Server 2003”.
