Moving Microsoft Exchange Databases 2003

To help you understand how Exchange databases work, We have two databases in principle, one would be the private DB and the other the public DB, There are two files: priv1.edb and pub1.edb respectively. These files grow as users' mailboxes grow, are by default in: “C:Program FilesExchsrvrMDBDATA“, What I usually do is take them out of the system partition and put them in the data partition which is really the one I'm interested in in case one day I have to format a server. To do this,: “Beginning” > “All Programs” > “Microsoft Exchange” > “System Administrator”

After the Exchange Server Management Console is open, We're going to “Servers” > “EXCHANGE SERVER NAME” > “First storage group” > “Mailbox Store”, Right-click and properties. First we do it with the databases of the private mailboxes.

We are located in the “Databases”, We have to hit the buttons “Examine” To move databases, first we will do it with the “Exchange Databases” and then with the “Exchange Stream Base”, Select a different partition on our server, as I mentioned earlier it is preferable in the partition of DATA, We give “Save”.

“Yes”,

Hope, if the DB has no content it won't take long.

“Accept”.

And once done with the DB of the private mailboxes, now we do it with the databases of public mailboxes. We're going to “Servers” > “EXCHANGE SERVER NAME” > “First storage group” > “Public folder store”, Right-click and properties.

“Accept”, we would already have the MS Exchange databases in another partition.
