VMware Mirage – Updating a Base Layer
In previous documents we already saw how to install the Mirage Server to centralize our equipment, this time we will see how easy it is to update the layer of the corporate Operating System and deploy the changes we make immediately to users!
A very common task is updating the latest patches of the Operating System or updating applications in the base layer.. The first thing we need to do is apply the necessary patches or changes on the reference machine, which we will then synchronize with Mirage and finally deploy to the users.!
Capturing the updated base layer,
From the Mirage console, we select the wizard “Capture Base Layer” to capture the new changes from the reference CVD..
We will select “Use as existing reference CVD”, & “Next”,
We select the reference machine with the new changes. & “Next”,
We select the base layer that we want to update., we will indicate whether it is a minor version change or not, and we will include the changes in the description, “Next”,
“Next”,
“Finish” Getting Started!
And we wait while the reference CVD uploads the changes to the volume of the Mirage Server, updating the base layer. We will be able to monitor the status from “Task Monitoring”.
Applying the updated base layer,
To apply the changes to the equipment, we must select “Assign Base Layer”,
We will select the CVDs individually or select a collection of them to apply the changes together, “Next”,
We select the version to apply & “Next”,
“Next”,
And “Finish” to apply this new base layer to the equipment!
