Updating a Presentation Server with Updates
Like everything, It is very important to keep a server updated with all patches, whether they are for the operating system or for its own applications or services. This document explains how to update a Citrix component (the Presentation Server). On my server I have the Presentation Server installed 4.0, but currently on the internet there is the R02 for it and some post-updates. The logical thing is to update to the latest 'service pack'’ (release), but not only for the Presentation Server, if this server has more services, they would also need to be installed, for example, the web interface, or the license server… Especially if we have the server exposed to the internet. If everything is on a LAN it would be less critical. To update a component:

To download the patches we have to go to the website www.citrix.com, go to the part of “My Citrix” and log in with the user that we have.

We will go to the part of “Downloads” above and here we select “Hotfixes, Rollups & Service Packs” to download these updates.

In my case, I am only going to apply patches to the component of the Presentation Server 4.0, if I have other components I would also update them.

I select my version, “Presentation Server 4.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003”,

Important, First things first, the language, on my server it is installed in Spanish, so I will download the patch in “Spanish”, and it will show me what patches are available in Spanish, I will download the most updated one, the “R02” or “Hotfix Rollup Pack PSS400W2K3R02 – For Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 for Windows Server 2003”.

We download the file PSS400W2K3R02.msp

“Save”

And we install it on the Citrix server that has the Presentation Server, a wizard will come up that will ask us nothing, “Following”,

…

Ok, it has been updated successfully, now we would go for the post-updates or patches for other products/components

This package requires a restart, so we click on “Accept”
