Using GOURAMI FASe in XenApp Environments
This utility (for a fee) will allow us to perform many tasks more comfortably or at least faster than through Citrix XenApp consoles. The other day I needed to change three parameters in almost 500 Published Applications, in the face of that we are sold out and we cannot do 'anything' in principle. Or we get into DB level (never) or we are looking for some utility that will make our lives easier, In this case, it is even cheaper for the customer to acquire this application than to pay for our hours, since 'only’ slope 100$. Even so, we can download it from its official website and be able to execute all the tasks in DEMO mode (that is, with restrictions) in www.gourami.eu.
FASe is from the manufacturer GOURAMI and is a package of applications:
– Published Applications Utility – PAU: Allows you to modify any configuration to all Citrix published applications in bulk.
– Farm Documentor: Generate a .VSD file (Microsoft Visio) with the drawing of our farm or community.
– Farm Reporter: Generates an HTML report on the community data we specify.
– Policy Tools: Allows us to export and import our Citrix policies or directives.
– Terminal Server Properties Editor: A simple but quite useful utility that lets us change the directories of the Terminal Services mobile profile for the users we are interested in, in bulk.
– Farm Monitor: Shows us basic information about the status of all our servers, as well as the services that depend on them (licences, BD…)
FASe Installation,
In this section, we will see the simple installation process of FASe,
We must perform the installation on one of the XenApp servers, be it Citrix Presentation Server version 4.0 o Citrix XenApp 4.5 o Citrix XenApp 5.0. La instalación se realizará como si fuese una aplicación más, deberemos poner el servidor en modo aplicación, for this, We install it from “Panel de Control” > “Add or remove programs” > “Agregar nuevos programas”.
Asistente MyWife, So “Next”,
Aja, aceptamos el acuerdo de licencia, “Next”,
Select the installation path, by default will be “M:Archivos de programaGouramiFASe” & “Next”,
“Next”,
Si queremos iconitos…
Ok, We give “Install” to install now,
…
Ok, tras unos segundos lo tenemos listo, ya podremos utilizar cualquiera de sus aplicaciones. “Finish”.
Published Applications Utility – PAU,
GOOD, para ejecutarla abrimos FASe, and we are going to “Published Applications Utility”,
When we open it, it will indicate how many applications we want it to scan, we will select the ones we want to modify, because if we check them all, it will take longer to open, although that might be our choice, with patience and a drink, it will open quickly 😉
It shows us all the applications and users it finds in our community,
We select the applications in which we want to modify any property, if we want all of them, We're going to “Check” > “All”,
And now we look in the PAU tabs for the options we want to change for all the applications published in our community, in my case, I will enable the audio for all, for that, I will go to “Misc” > “Client options”,
There I check “Change audio settings” and I enable it by checking the box for “Enable legacy audio” & “OK”,
For the changes to take effect, they must be saved (for that, a license will already be required) “File” > “Save changes”,
We must check the box “I understand changes can’t be undone” indicating that we agree that what we are going to do cannot be undone, and we will also write “I made a backup of the datastore” to confirm that we have made a backup of the Citrix database before performing this task. “OK”.
And now we just have to wait while the changes are applied, depending on what we have configured, it will take more or less time.
Farm Documentor,
Requires Microsoft Visio to be installed so that we can generate a Visio with the data of interest from our community. We can indicate whether to display the IP addresses or not, the server UID, The version, the zones… and how to set up Visio, how many rows, font size, if we want it to connect to a CAG (Citrix Access Gateway) or to a WI (Web Interface)… We give “Generate Drawing” to generate the drawing.
And it will produce a drawing like this in VSD format.
Farm Reporter,
SAME as the previous one, but in HTML format
Policy Tools,
We can export the policies of our community, either all of them or only the ones we are interested in to later import them.
Terminal Server Properties Editor,
We have the application “Terminal Server Properties Editor” that will allow us to massively modify all the users we are interested in in the directory of “Profile path” in “Terminal Services User Profile” as well as the “Main folder of Terminal Services” and if we want to connect or map it to a drive letter. We would apply the changes from “Apply changes” and that's it.
Farm Monitor,
This application (Farm Monitor) is quite… say… 'simple', simplemente nos informa de quien es el Datastore de nuestra comunidad y si está OK o no, igual con el servidor de licencias, el Data Collector principal, y el listado de los servidores XenApp que tengamos, dándonos de ellos algo de información útil.
