Veeam Backup 9.5 – Adding Infrastructure Servers

In this post we will see how to add from the console of our Veeam Backupp and Replication our infrastructure servers, This is, The servers that service our infrastructure, to connect us to your resources and be able to support them, are virtual machines, physical machines as well as resources that we have in the cloud!

We will see a very common example, we will add a VMware vCenter Server to Veeam, and then in other posts we will see how to back up or replicate the virtual machines managed by that vCenter. In other posts we will also see how to add other types of infrastructure servers!

Very simple, Started! From the menu “Backup Infrastructure” > “Add Server…”

And here we see all the options supported by Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 Update 3:

  • VMware vSphere: VMware's virtualization suite par excellence, we will be able to add vCenter servers or ESXi servers individually.
  • VMware vCloud Director: We will be able to connect to public clouds and manage our backups, supported version 5.5 or higher!
  • Microsoft Hyper-V: Microsoft's virtualization suite, we will be able to add SCVMM servers (System Center Virtual Machine Manager), Hyper-V server clusters or standalone servers, Supported on Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher.
  • Microsoft SMB3: If we store Hyper-V VMs on SMB3, we can also perform backups in the same way by adding the SMB3 server.
  • Microsoft Windows: We can back up remote Windows servers (usually physical machines or cluster members) via a small agent.
  • Linux: Just like a remote Windows machine, we can also back up physical Linux machines that have SSH enabled and Perl installed.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the document, we rely on connection to a vCenter Server, so after selecting it, we will add its IP address or even better its DNS name by entering the FQDN. “Next”,

We must connect with valid credentials, we will be able to easily manage the accounts from “Manage accounts”. “Next”,

It will present us the certificate, we trust and “Connect”,

And that's it! Our machine will already be added, Now we will be able to make backups and replication tasks of the virtual machines we host, We will see all this in the following documents, I will try to show you all the possibilities we have so that you can configure your backup system in the best way!
