Installing and Configuring an HP StorageWorks D2D – HP D2D
GOOD, In this document we will see how we can configure the hardware backup system under a Backup Exec 12d, In this document we will show how to connect this server that uses an iSCSI network to a backup server. We'll need a gigabit network to get started, we will connect the D2D to this network and the BackupExec server as well, The ideal, of course, it is a separate network and the backup server has a dedicated network adapter. We will use the Backup Exec server so that you can make backups to the D2D tapes or to your disks.
This would be the HP D2D in question, It has internal hard drives and an external tape drive, Depending on the model, the size of the internal discs varies, in my case, I think I have about 750Gb internal, multiple disks with a RAID5.
So on the server running BackupExec we have to install the drivers or drivers of the tape drive, detect the networked D2D device, Set up a name, an IP address and then we will configure the parameters to connect with iSCSI. So we put in the HP D2D Installation Wizard CD, “Following”,
First of all, install HP drivers so that it recognizes the drive, So we click on “Following”,
… we wait while the drivers are installed on the server…
Ok, Click on “Following”, to continue with the installation of the D2D,
Now the assistant will proceed to detect the D2D in our network, so assuming we have the D2D connected to the giga network with its iSCSI adapter and our server, Click on “Following”,
… we wait while searching for the D2D device on the net…
We have been detected by D2D, We have to set up a hostname for it, a fixed IP address and additional network settings, such as the subnet mask or gateway, “Following”,
… We wait while you apply the above settings…
Ok, confirms that the following data has been configured. We continue from “Following”
Now what we have to do is install the iSCSI initiator on our server so that it connects to the D2D as if it were a local drive. “Following”
We select the option that interests us the most, in my case how I will use Backup Exec for frame backups “Autoloader for use with Symantec Backup Exec”, otherwise, We have a couple of other options to be able to use with other copy software or as if it were a standalone drive. “Following”,
… we wait while Microsoft's iSCSI initiator is downloaded…
Ok, Once the launcher is installed we will have to configure it, for this, We close the wizard from “Close the wizard”,
We open the iSCSI initiator from the “Control Panel” in “Microsoft iSCSI Initiator”,
We have to add the D2D, from the “Discovery” in “Target Portals” and in “Add”,
We indicate the IP address that we have assigned to you during the wizard, The default port is the 3260, “OK”,
We check that the connections go out and accept.
The installation wizard has also left us an icon on the desktop to manage the D2D via the web, We open it.
We log in with the username “Administrator” and password “Admin”, We start the session,
From this website we will be able to manage the D2D, We see the autoloader, The Tape Unit…
And that's it from Backup Exec, we'll have to add it from “Tools” > “Present” > “Device Configuration Wizard…”
We complete the wizard to add or configure the devices, “Following”,
“Following”
Mark “Configure robotic library units” & “Following”,
We see the units we have, The Tape Unit, The 'virtual' library’ of discs, “Following”,
“End”,
And in the “Devices” we'll see our tape drive and discs. Now we would simply have to configure the tasks, The supports…
