Using VMware ThinApp in VMware View 4.6
In this document, we'll look at how to integrate into VMware View 4.6 the applications we can distribute with VMware ThinApp, With this we will be able to achieve a clean distribution of equipment and distribute applications that users need through streaming with all the advantages that the combination of both technologies entails,
Before starting we will need to have already created our VMware ThinApp packages and generated the MSI files that we are going to assign to our users (More info: http://www.bujarra.com/?p=1113). Well, Started, first we must indicate where the ThinApp package repository resides from “View Configuration” > “ThinApp Configuration” > “Add Repository…”
We indicate a descriptive name and the UNC rune where we have the packages to deploy. “Save”,
Now let's roll out a package, To do this, we first look for them from “Inventory” > “ThinApps” > “Scan New ThinApps…”
Select the repository and a directory where we want to search & “Next”,
In my case I only have one app, which is Adobe Reader, I'll select the MSI we compiled when generating the package to scan the app, “Scan”,
“Finish”,
Once we have the inventoried applications, we can assign them either to desktop pools or to individual desktops, since “Add Assignment”
In my case, I will select a pool that I have generated (This time it's a manual and dedicated one) & “OK”,
And that's it, once the user is on the virtual desktop, they will be able to see the available applications and run them! In this white paper we have a very good guide to a more complex and comprehensive integration between VMware View and VMware ThinApp: HTTP://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-IG-ViewThinApp-EN.pdf
