
Backup Exec Migration 12.5 a Backup Exec 2010
To all of us who use Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 We will have received an email some time ago indicating that we can now download Symantec Backup Exec 2010 and update our Backup Exec environment 12.5, to be able to perform this simple migration process, we will have to enter the Symantec website and obtain our licenses and installation software. In this document we look at the Backup Exec update process 12.5 a Backup Exec 2010 on a single server and with multiple remote servers with the Exec Backup Agent.
What I said, once we have the installation ISO, unzipped or burned onto a DVD, on the backup server we start the installation wizard, the first time we will need to check that our environment is compatible with Backup Exec 2010, for this we will select “Pre-installation”,
Select “Backup Exec” which is the product we want to test before installing,
The Environment Check is responsible for verifying various installation factors, software requirements… “Following”
I will perform a check both locally for my backup server and for the remote machines where I will also update the Backup Exec remote agent,
Click on “Manually add server” to add the machines to be analyzed,
We indicate the name of the system and the domain, “Accept”,
We enter administrative credentials on the system & “Accept”,
Once we have them, “Following”,
… we wait while it performs the checks…
List, We give “Following”,
… we wait while it runs the results check…
And it will show us warnings of possible incidents or errors if there is something incompatible, in my case everything is correct, I can click on “End” and start updating immediately,
In the DVD menu we select “Installation” > “Backup Exec” > “Install”,
Finally, the Backup Exec installation wizard begins 2010, and it has detected an old version of Backup Exec that it will proceed to update, “Following”
We accept the license “I accept the terms of the License Agreement”, “Following”,
We select what we want to install, In this case, I will perform a local installation on my server and remotely the agents on all my other servers., the mail server, sql…
It will check the results of the analysis in the Environment Check. & “Following”,
We will enter the license numbers we have for Backup Exec. 2010 and we add them., even so, we will be able to import them from an XML.. “Following”,
We select the components to be installed, are local, Remote, optional.…
We enter an account with administrator privileges to use the Backup Exec services., man, Ideally, there should be a user just for those services., not like in the example where the domain administrator is used.. “Following”,
We select the destination folder where it will be installed., Default “%ProgramFiles%SymantecBackup Exec”, it will indicate the space needed for installation., “Following”,
We need to back up the database and export the records we have., To do this, we will specify a location., It will back up the SQL database and copy the XML and HTML from the tasks.. “Following”,
If we want to perform remote installations, now is the time., We must add the servers we are interested in., “Add” > “Add multiple servers with the same configuration.” If we want to install the agent on several servers at once.,
We select the product we want to install remotely., in my case “Remote Agent for Windows Servers.” & “Following”,
I select all the servers where I want to install it., We enter an account with sufficient privileges to install. & “Following”,
We confirm the components to install. (including or not Advanced Open File Option if we have purchased it), the default installation directory will be ‘%ProgramFiles%SymantecBackup ExecRAWS’, “Following”,
We enable the publishing of computers to add them to the Backup Exec list by indicating which will be the backup server (or media), “Following”,
“Following” to start the process of updating the remote Backup Exec agents,
We check that everything is correct in this final review and click “Install” to proceed to migrate our Backup Exec environment 12.5 a 2010.
… we wait a few minutes while it updates…
“Following”, we must take into account that the servers with the remote agents will need to be restarted before making the first backup.
Y comprobamos el resumen de instalación donde indica que se migró la base de datos y se actualizó perfectamente a Backup Exec 2010!
List, una vez completado, tendremos que ejecutar el LiveUpdate de Symantec para actualizar a la última todos los componentes de Backup Exec y reiniciaremos el equipo que acabamos de actualizar!
